(a) Every person operating a bicycle upon a roadway shall ride as near to the right side of the roadway as practicable, except when turning left or avoiding hazards to safe cycling, when the lane is too narrow to share safely with a motor vehicle, when traveling at the same speed as traffic, or while exercising due care when passing a standing vehicle or one proceeding in the same direction; provided, however, that every person operating a bicycle away from the right side of the roadway shall exercise reasonable care and shall give due consideration to the other applicable rules of the road.

A few of the crew were going to train today, and en route to meetup IAmNaseer was in an accident with a vehicle making an illegal U-turn at Peachtree and Ivan-Allen/Ralph McGill.  That sexy new leader 735 posted a while back…totaled. After he was taken to Grady with possible fractures in his leg and forearm. I was talking to the investigating officer and was told that IAmNaseer was the party at fault for as the officer told me “moving too quickly.” 

This is an intersection right past the merging of Peachtree center into peachtree, and so many cyclists pick up speed to move into the left lane to avoid people merging blindly and the many cars that jump over to make the right onto McGill. To be in that lane legally you need to be “moving quickly.” At Grady the actual citation was the law stated above with the comment being “Not riding on the right side of the road.” 

This whole situation is complete bullshit. Not a single driver pulled over to help and be an eye witness, which is a huge burden for him to overcome since the driver claimed to only be making a left turn, for which he signaled (he didn’t), and went wide right (indicative of a u-turn) to avoid a pothole (there was none). Since the officer sided with the driver, it’s now IAmNaseer’s task to prove all of this is shit, so that his medical costs, and the 2500$ 4-day old bike replacement aren’t his costs to bear. 

Since IAmNaseer is a huge part of NHLB, we are planning to do everything we can to help out part of the crew. Look for a fundraising race soon.

TL;DR: Our boy got fucked over by Atlanta traffic, and by APD, needs support, mash for your monies soon.
